cross.gifEmergency Visit/Consultation
This is the initial visit with the veterinarian. The clinician will make recommendations as to the best course of action and give advice.

cross.gifHospitalization and Intensive Care
A clean, well-kept ward is provided for your pet during the clinic stay. Quarters are sterilized between patients. Heat support is available for those cases that need it. Intensive care monitoring is provided for those animals that need extra attention by technicians or monitoring devices such as continual EKG monitoring for cardiac arrhythmias, pulse oximeters which measure oxygen in the blood, and blood pressure monitoring. We have incubators for the smaller patients that need heat and oxygen support. There is also an isolation ward to keep contagious animals separated from others, which is decontaminated between patients. We also offer extended visitation rooms if conditions allow it.

cross.gifRadiographs
Having an x-ray unit on site, with an automatic processor and experienced veterinarians to interpret the x-rays, can save precious moments and make the difference between life and death.

cross.gifLaboratory
Pet Emergency Treatment has an in-house lab machine for performing complete blood counts, blood chemistries, blood gasses, blood clotting ability, antifreeze ingestion, canine parvovirus, and feline leukemia, which may be required for the diagnosis and treatment of your pet’s emergency.

cross.gifElectrocardiogram
Electrocardiogram (EKG) tracings may be needed to diagnose heart disease and other conditions. Some animals also require constant EKG monitoring as described in the intensive care section.

cross.gifOxygen Therapy
Oxygen cages, nasal oxygen and a ventilator are available for any patient who requires increased atmospheric oxygen levels due to lung bruising, pneumonia, asthma, heart disease, or any other respiratory emergency.

cross.gifFluid & Blood Product Therapy
Administration of life-saving solutions intravenously (in the vein) may be indicated in cases of shock, dehydration, and blood loss. Intravenous indwelling catheters with fluid pumps, which deliver calculated drug dosages, are frequently utilized.  Blood, plasma, substitute oxygen carrying blood products
and plasma extenders are available if needed. We stock blood products for daytime clinics to use in emergency situations as well.

cross.gifAnesthesia
Injectable, gas anesthesia or sedation are used alone or in combination, depending on the surgical procedure. Anesthetized patients frequently have EKG, heart rate, blood oxygen, blood pressure, body temperature and respiratory monitoring performed.

cross.gifSurgery
A wide range of emergency surgical procedures may be performed at the clinic, such as thoracic surgery, gastric torsion repair, cesarean sections, removal of foreign bodies (bullets, bones, balls, swallowed toys), repair of torn tendons and muscles. We also suture lacerations that may heal better if attended to more promptly.

cross.gifEuthanasia
We offer compassionate euthanasia as a humane alternative if your pet is critically ill, suffering or if it is in the best interest with your given situation. If you desire, you may be with your pet during their last minutes. This is a personal decision to do what you feel is best for you and your pet.

cross.gifCremation
In the unfortunate circumstance your pet passes away, we operate a crematory service. You have the option of a group cremation, where ashes are not returned to you but disposed of at an environmentally friendly site, or private cremation with a variety of urn selections if desired for return of your pet’s ashes to you. This service is offered here at Pet Emergency Treatment or through your local veterinarian by requesting Pet Emergency Treatment cremation.

cross.gifLaparoscopic Preventative Gastropexies
This minimally invasive surgery involves attaching the stomach to the body wall to prevent Gastric Dilatation and Volvulus (GDV) or Bloat.
Please call 274-5636 to see if this surgery is right for your dog, or to schedule a consultation with Dr. Colin Hurd.

cross.gifEndoscopy
PET offers both rigid and flexible endoscopy services.  Endoscopes can be inserted in body cavities through natural or surgical openings and are used for the diagnosis and treatment of many diseases.  Many of these procedures are considered minimally invasive and allow for decreased patient discomfort and recovery times.  Procedures include evaluation of the abdomen, bladder, ears, throat and attachment of the stomach to the body wall to prevent stomach torsion (GDV).

cross.gifExotic Patients
Small mammals, reptiles/amphibians, and birds are no exception when it comes to medical emergencies and our facility is capable of treating most of these cases.  With the addition of Dr. Doty to our team of doctors we have an even greater knowledge-base for treating these unique patients.  Our staff has the opportunity to draw on her 15 years of exotic experience to provide the best treatment for these patients in cases of emergency.
